In which Caleb gets to meet Mr. Bobby and Mrs. Kelli, who were in town doing a children's music day camp at a local church:

[Background for those who don't know: Bobby was one of my groomsmen and I was recently in his and Kelli's wedding. They live in Baton Rouge and came with a team from Broadmoor Baptist Church (where Bobby is Youth Minister, and the church our family went to when we all lived in Baton Rouge) to conduct the music camp. We had a great time having dinner with them tonight.]

That Wascally Wabbit

Since Clyde the Bunny was pretty skittish and would bolt into his hole when frightened, I removed the grate from above the window well this morning before church. After church, I lowered a board to cover up his hole, thusly:

I left it there a little while so he could get used to it being there, and also to make sure he couldn't get behind it to escape.

When the time came, I prepared the styrofoam cooler by poking air holes in the lid. Wearing my gloves, and with Laura and Caleb looking on, I unlocked and opened the window.

Clyde immediately ran for his hole, but finding his pathway blocked, he proceeded to run back and forth along the far end of the window well. Darting back and forth, this way and that, always just out of my reach.

Finally, realizing he no longer had anything to lose, Clyde lunged at me through the window, ending up on the floor of our office. After a fervent chase from one corner to the other, I was finally able to catch the beast and place him in the cooler.

(At least I didn't have to answer five three questions.)

I then drove Clyde just down the road to a nice lake in a nice park near our house and set him free.

When I got home, I took the board out of the window well and put it back in the garage. I picked up the grate in order to put it back in its place above the window. As I stepped into the ivy to replace the grate, I nearly put my foot down . . . on a baby bunny.

Bunny Update

It seems three of our four bunny guests decided to move elsewhere. The fourth, however, decided to take up residence outside one of our basement windows . . . in the window well:

We're not sure how he got there, he must have fallen in after getting into the ivy by our front steps. It seems he's tried to escape by burrowing up into a gap between the steps and the front of the house, which he can get to in the window well. See his escape hole here:

It is apparently just wide enough for him to fit now, since when he comes out of it, he does so backwards.

Concerned for his well-being, Laura put some food and water out for him, and also moved the old bunny nest from under the fern.

Our plan is to try to catch him and move him to a safe location. Wish us luck.

Our New Tenants

Caleb and Mommy were watering the plants in our front courtyard today and met our new tenants:

I know they're hard to see, but the clump of brown in the middle of the photo is one of four baby bunnies living in our flowerbed. They are named Flopsy, Mopsy, Peter and Clyde. They had a slight scare, but Laura was able to round them all up and put them back. Here is a picture of the nest they had been using under our fern:

We're hoping their mom comes back, we'll keep you posted.

Father's Day

The last year has brought great growth to our household -- physically (note the pregnancy picture and Caleb's astounding growth), mentally and spiritually. It has been amazing to see a man grow into the fabulous husband that he has become and it has been even more amazing to see him evolve into a loving father. Watching Caleb and Kevin together has been a joy to me -- the way Caleb looks for his Daddy, the way Kevin tries to make Caleb laugh, and the way Caleb laughs at his Daddy's antics. I can't wait to see what the coming year brings as we all grow together. Happy Father's Day, Kevin!
