In other news, we're going to Dallas this weekend to visit family and show off Caleb. So, it will late Monday or Tuesday before the blog gets updated. Happy End of Summer, everybody.

Caleb's First Camping Trip

As mentioned in this post, we went camping last weekend in western Maryland with Missy and Adney.

We had a great time enjoying the great outdoors. Here is a picture of our campsite:

We arrived late Saturday morning, and after setting up camp and having a quick lunch, we decided to hike around the lake on one of the trails there. After the first few minutes, though, it was time to feed Caleb, and "Aunt Missy" fed some fish:

A little farther along, we encountered this duck, who may just be molting, but he looks interesting anyway:

Man, we saw a lot of ducks. This is just one picture, there were many more ducks:

Mommy and Caleb take a breather, but don't be fooled by the pavement; that's the road. The trail was unpaved. So, kudos to Laura for lugging the "little" (18 pounds now!) guy around:

Oh, wait, it's Aunt Missy's turn:

Here's part of the trail. We had beautiful weather for our hike:

And Caleb had a great time:

After four miles in two and a half hours, it was time for a break back at the campsite:

In which Caleb is happily playing inside the tent:

[It turns out we needn't have worried about taking Caleb camping. He loved being inside the tent, and outside amongst the trees. Otherwise he kept to his normal schedule. A great time was had by all. More pictures in a future post.]

Check Back on Sunday

We'll be camping Saturday night at Rocky Gap State Park in western Maryland with our good friends Missy and Adney.

It will be Caleb's first night in a tent.

Are we insane?

Here's a bird's-eye view of Barefoot's Resort, on Hill Island:

Check out our slide show. Sorry if the captions get in the way, but this was easier than uploading 35 individual photos into a single huge blog post. Click on a picture to go straight to the album online:

In which Caleb checks himself out in the mirror, maybe practicing his pick-up lines? "Hi there, babe, when I learn the alphabet, I'll rearrange it so U and I can be together."*:

And another one in black and white:

*Thinking cheesy pick-up lines like this are funny good is part of the reason I wasn't a very successful dater. Of course, I was successful the only time it mattered ;)

We're Back!

Did you miss us?

We arrived safely this afternoon after a short delay with our connection in Detroit. Caleb did great on the plane today, but was a little fussy on the drive home.

I haven't even had a chance to look at the pictures we took, so no vacation post for a couple of days. We're also waiting for Grandpa Larry to send us some of his pictures.

All is well, and The Daily Caleb should resume tomorrow.

How was your week?

This Blog is Taking a Vacation

And so are we! Tomorrow we're going back to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, for a week of boating, fishing and just plain relaxing. We may even get some of the famous Mackinac fudge!

Mmmmmm . . . . fudge. . .

Anyway, we'll be back a week from tomorrow, and regular posting will resume once we get back. I know you can't wait for the photo of Caleb water skiing.

The Daily Caleb: 8/1/08

In which Caleb is listening to the radio, hearing Daddy win food from Chick-fil-A:

Some background: Our local Christian radio station, WGTS 91.9 FM, conducts a call-in contest twice a day called the Family Name Game. They announce a child's first name, and if you have a child with that name and are the first to call in, you win food from Chick-fil-A.

The name for this afternoon was, you guessed it, Caleb! We wouldn't have known if Laura's friend Donna hadn't called us. So, thanks, Donna; we owe you a dinner at Chick-fil-A.
