The Quilt

As the story goes, the front of the quilt was started by my mom in the mid-1980's (perhaps to deal with the stress of being widowed and the single parent of two boys, eight and twelve). The quilt was pieced together from scraps of material, some I recognize, most I don't. For some reason, it was never completed (perhaps due to the stress of being widowed and the single parent of two boys, eight and twelve) and wound up packed away in a box.

Over twenty years later, my grandmother (Caleb's Great Grandma Jo), found the quilt while going through some boxes that had belonged to my mom. Somehow, I don't exactly remember, word got back to Grammy Sue, who offered to complete the quilt, as she was newly retired and getting back into quilting.

The scraps of fabric used in the quilt are nothing special, and the quilt itself probably wouldn't win any awards. But this quilt, now complete, pieced together by two grandmothers who never met, and a generation apart, is something special.

It's something my kids will be able to see and touch and keep warm under, knowing it was made with love by their grandmas. Both of them:

Caleb's Weekend in Ohio

We spent this past weekend with Grammy and Grandpa in Ohio. Caleb had such a good time, he decided to stay for the rest of the week!*

Here he is Friday night, sharing some toys with Grandpa Larry:


On Saturday, we went down to Newport, Kentucky (just across from Cincinnati) and met up with cousins Hailey and Logan:

*Really, he's staying because our bathroom is getting remodeled this week, and we figured the contractors didn't need Caleb's brand of "help".
